I look pretty contemplative, don’t I?  Just wondering why I am at the beach right after birthing a baby, that’s all.

Then 2 weeks later, we left for Cyprus with the whole family! The weather was BLAZING hot (120 degrees on some days), the people were AMAZING, the trip was TOUGH, but I am learning ALL THE TIME.

A little glimpse…

The people we would meet were so great and went BANANAS over our kids!!

Yes, I am naming my furniture. Since we are selling some of the pieces we work on and they are starting to pile up, I have been trying to come up with a way to catalog/name each piece. So, I am naming them with a number. Don’t like it? Get over it.

We love Six. He is a beautiful french gray adorned with anthropology hardware. Can’t. Get. Enough. Of. Him.

Six is kind of a big deal because he went on a photo shoot last Friday. He helped showcase an incredible line of leather bags and accessories for Moore and Giles! This line is AMAZING- I should know- I used to work FT doing design for them.  Not only did Six make an appearance, but some of our other prize pieces (like the yellow trunk of course- aka “Two”) where photographed as well.

Anywho, here is a sneak peak at some of the photos from the shoot. Soooooo beautiful!! Hopefully, I can post more from the M&G photoshoot soon… (photos courtesy of Moore and Giles, Inc)6 at M&G photo shoot

I have been a little absent from the blogging world this week because some major events have taken place in our family. Well, one major event. Nathan was laid off from his job at noon this past Wednesday. There was no warning whatsoever. The reasons were purely financial- nothing to do with his performance as a designer. He and a project manager were both laid off due to two major clients drying up.

I must say, it is VERY surreal to have him home in a mad search for another job. BUT, we feel like the Lord has totally prepared us for this in so many ways. There has been no major FREAK OUT sessions YET, just a supernatural trust in the Lord to provide an even better job for him. He has already received a bunch of leads from fellow designers, he has applied to several positions and he has an interview already set up for next week.

I say all of this in hopes of your support and prayers AND (for our local friends) to keep an ear open for any job opportunities. THANK YOU SO MUCH to our friends who have already acted swiftly in finding leads and supporting us!!

So I have this friend- well, she is more than a friend- she is the best. We go WAY back – I mean, I knew her before I started plucking my eyebrows. Her name is Kelly and together with her husband, they run a fabulously creative photography company KELLAN STUDIOS. Listen, they have MAD PHOTOGRAPHY SKILZ- ok?

Well, because she is nice and because I don’t have a single shot of me by myself in the last YEAR, Kelly did a one-on-one shoot of my crazy large 8 month preggo belly today!!! I wanted to include a fun furniture piece (of course) so I chose the yellow trunk (of course). We love this trunk. And we love Kelly.

I love dressers SO much. They are one of my favorites to work on. Of course, when I am working on a table, tables are my favorite and when I am working on a trunk, trunks are my favorite….so on…WHATEVER…

THE POINT IS…..I am working on this baby – here is a sneak peak cause I can’t WAIT to share it.

OH MAN. Get excited. This should be complete and ready for its photo shoot by MONDAY. YAY!

Wouldn’t it be FUN if I posted a pic of ella every wednesday?? I would call it “ella wednesday”. OK- don’t count on this actually happening, but this is me putting my best foot forward…

vintage yellow frames

  1. I painted some of my frames “vintage yellow” to make a bunch of misc frames look like they go together. Good idea- bad paint color. It looks more like greenish-yellow-puke-yuck. Can’t decide if I should just go with another paint color all together or give it up and do white on everything. It may be the color of my walls that is not jiving with the paint colors. As you can see, I tried to sand one of them. Suggestions please.
  2. I am going to get a passport for my 19 month old today. It is vain that I am trying to make her hair look cute for the passport photo. Don’t care.
  3. I only cut my hair once every 6 months because I am lazy and not a fan of paying $55 for a hair cut. I am getting it cut this weekend. Its a big day for me.

I am finally getting a chance to work on some treasures that I have been accumulating.  This stuff keeps me sain and my mind OFF the fact that I am so VERY pregnant. For all you worrying people out there: YES, I do the painting outside and NO, I do not lift this stuff. Nathan helps me a lot too.

So here is some lovely things that I found and we will be working on in the coming days…

Love this dresser – me thinks FRENCH GREY will do the trick.

Sweet little rocker….any suggestions on color? Can’t decide if I want a rustic white or a fun color….

I love this so much. I want to use it as a planter, but I think I will spruce it up a bit first…

Nathan’s grandmother had one of these calendar tea towels for every year. When she passed last year, I inherited a few. They were all used and stained, but I loved them. I decided to make this one into a pillow- I am no seamstress, but I think it turned out pretty cute AND it is a great memory of Nana.

What happen was this:  the weather finally turned…it is above 50 degrees and that means…I might have gone a little crazy with my painting projects.

I had a bunch of glass items (mostly thrift store stuff) that I had collected. So on the first lovely day, I threw everything outside and got a little glossy with some white spray paint….ok, I went overboard. I painted a LOT of stuff white. I am learning to love white. We don’t know why. Just check out some of the goodies:

DON’T YOU LOVE WHITE????!!! There is more, but I grew weary of taking pictures. But NEVER FEAR….there is more white to come.

I am working on a little project that involves putting a little of this:

on a little of that:

should be ready to post in a day or two!!

a little thrift store find-  crisp white with a little yellow on top….listen, i’ll take sunshine where i can get it these days (can you tell i am over the snow and cold?)

candle holder after white paint

Yeah, yeah…I love working furniture. But you know what else I love?! NICE WEATHER. It is freezing cold, very wet with still tons of snow on the ground which has put a screeching halt to a lot of my projects. Even my basement is cold….I don’t do cold.

So, what is the next logical thing to do with yourself if you are bored and stuck inside???? Sew a quilt! No, I have never done it before. I just really started sewing little dresses for my Ella about a year ago. But what the heck- I am giving it a whirl.

Step 1: I found out you can download FREE AMY BUTLER PATTERNS online- I love her fabrics and she has such great designs. Here is the plan: I am using “Amy’s Nigella Quilt” pattern- it is awesome. If mine looks even remotely close to this, I will be pleased as punch:

Step 2: Buy the fabrics. This is the most fun part- not to mention the easiest. I went to Joannes (because that is the only option we have here in Lynchburg- Grrrrrrr).  You need 1 main fabric and 4-5 accent fabrics. Here is what I found:

Step 3: START CUTTING. Here is where the rubber meets the road. I have finish cutting all my center bulbs and I am halfway through cutting my accent strips:

That is all I have done so far….WISH ME LUCK!
